National Parks Road Trip & Alaska Sea/Land Cruise - April-June 2015
SeaTac, WA
When we left Yosemite National Park to head to SeaTac it was snowing and sleeting. It took us a couple of hours to negotiate the steep winding road out of the park. Fortunately, when we got to a much lower elevation the weather cleared up. We saw one car on the side of the road that may have slid off the road, but it appeared they had pulled off to wait out the storm. Another car was off the road on the left, tracks in the snow showed that the car had slid to the right then across the street and off the left side. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to pull over and there were cars right behind us so we could not stop in the road. We also did not have any bars on the cell phone to call for help. Two people were outside the car and did not appear to be hurt, we said a prayer for them and continued on.
We stopped in Medford, OR for the night and arrived in SeaTac the next day. There was a lot of beautiful scenery driving through Oregon and Washington, but the traffic through Portland, OR and Tacoma, WA was horrific, especially one 16 mile stretch near Tacoma that took us two hours to get through due to an accident. We had been telling everyone that we would be leaving for the cruise from Seattle, but there is actually a town named SeaTac between Tacoma & Seattle where the airport for the two cities is located. We had discussed going into Seattle to see some of the sites, but decided if we did it would only be to say we went to them not that either of us had a great interest in them. So instead, we had a day of relaxation before getting on the shuttle to start our cruise. We did walk across the street from the motel to the Angle Lake Park, where we walked around the park and sat and watched some kids playing in the playgrounds.
