We had a day to just do things on our own. We had breakfast at a small diner type restaurant near the hotel. Then we headed off to the area around Kapiolani Park.
Our first stop was at the Waikiki Aquarium on the beach directly across the street from Kapiolani Park. This is a small aquarium, but there were many interesting sea creatures on display. At seal feeding time a show was put on with the seals performing for their food.
We had a very nice lunch at a cafe on the beach.
We then crossed the street to a corner of Kapiolani Park to visit the Honolulu Zoo. As with the aquarium the zoo is small, but contained several interesting animals. Shortly after we returned home the Honolulu Zoo was a site in a Hawaii 50 episode and we recognized some of the areas we had seen.
We spent some time wandering around the King's Village a mall near the Rock Island Cafe and had a light supper of food purchased from the vendors at the Farmer's Market set up just outside the mall. We then went into the Rock Island Cafe where Dale had a banana split and Ernie had a black cow (root beer float with chocolate ice cream).
We had a very enjoyable relaxing day. (Pictures)
