Crown Reef Resort & Waterpark
In Myrtle Beach we stayed at the Crown Reef Resort & Waterpark.
All the rooms face the ocean and have balconies. We left the balcony door open each night so we went to sleep and awoke in the morning to the sound of the waves lapping the shore. The room was spacious and clean with a stove and refrigerator, plus cookware and everything needed to prepare and eat a meal. Being on a busy schedule with breakfast and dinner included each day, we did not take advantage of the ability to make our own meals.
The waterpark has several pools, several hot tubs, two very long tube-like waterslides, and a long lazy river that, when we just floated on the tubes letting the water move us along, took about twenty minutes to complete a circuit. We took advantage of the waterpark the first night and two afternoons instead of doing the scheduled shopping trips. (Pictures)

L. W. Paul Living History Farm
The morning of our first day in Myrtle Beach, we visited the L. W. Paul Living History Farm. The night before the tour greeter informed us that there was not much here and we would not need the full two hours allotted for the visit. Upon arrival the parking lot only had one car in it and the place did not look like much, some of the people on the bus started saying maybe we should just go to the boardwalk. Ernie was very glad that after the bus drive checked with the people at the farm it was decided that we would go in to see it.
The visit to the farm was very interesting, there were people at different locations throughout the farm who explained how things on the farm were done in the period between 1900 into the 1950s. They compared this with how it is done, at working farms, today. Ernie found it very interesting and most of the other people in the tour group were talking about how interesting it was, we heard some commenting on how happy they were to have had the chance to eat raw peanuts that had just been pulled up from the ground. Legends In Concert
The evening of our first day in Myrtle Beach, we attended the Legends In Concert show. We had attended a version of this show in Pigeon Forge, the performers in Pigeon Forge were better than the ones on this visit. The "Legends" impersonated at this show were:
Barry White, his talking voice was right on, his singing voice does not quite hit the mark. This being said, his performance was entertaining.
Garth Brooks, this was the best of the impressionist. His voice was pretty much spot on. Without any special makeup he resembled Garth Brooks, albeit the heaviest version of Garth.
Blues Brothers, we are not really familiar with them. We have now seen a few impressionist do them, all the impressionist we have seen sound the same, so we assume this is how the originals sounded. They had muted videos of the Blues Brothers playing, this duo's moves were right on to the ones in the videos.
Whitney Houston, the least entertaining of the acts. She is probably a very good singer, but because her performance is being compared to Whitney Houston it was difficult to determine how good she is.
Elvis Presley, on the slower/deeper parts the impressionist was right on, not quite so much when he rocked it.
Though not as good as the Pigeon Forge version, this version was very entertaining. Dale thinks some of the problem was with the sound system. (Pictures)

Pure Magic
The morning of our second day in Myrtle Beach, we attended the Pure Magic show at the Carolina Opry Theater. The show starred The Wagsters, Brandon and Hanna Lynn Wagster. They were very good, no super extravagant tricks, but everything they did was done well. We know this is all illusion, but we are amazed by the fact they can make it appear real. (Pictures)

ONE: The Show
The evening of our second day in Myrtle Beach, we attended ONE: The Show at the Alabama Theatre. Dale listens to new music so she knows most of the songs, she loved this show. Ernie does not listen to the radio very much so he does not know many of the songs. He could not understand the lyrics being sung and the production numbers were too busy for him to enjoy. We both agree the best part of the show is the comedian, Ricky Mokel. No pictures were allowed.

The Man of a Thousand Voices
The morning of our third day in Myrtle Beach, we attended The Man of a Thousand Voices at the Asher Theatre. The Man of A Thousand Voices features impressionist and entertainer James Stephens III . We were thinking that this show was going to be mostly music of many different artist. It turned out to be comedy impersonations with some singing included. Most of the impersonations were spot on, some amazingly like the celebrity being impersonated. This was definitely one of the best shows of this type we have seen. Since pictures cannot show how well he did the voices, we just took a few pictures then enjoyed the show. The one picture we are sharing can be seen by hovering the cursor over his name above.

Carolina Opry
The evening of our third day in Myrtle Beach, we attended the Carolina Opry. In Ernie's opinion this is the best show on the tour, Dale thinks ONE might have been a little better. This show contained music, singing, dancing, and comedy. Everything was done extremely well. The show is well paced, as one act leaves the stage to one side, microphone(s) and equipment are being changed for the next act which is on stage within seconds of the other act. Highlights of the show are the comedian, Kym "Bogie" Shurbutt and the cloggers dance group, All That who made it to the finals of the first season of America Has Talent.
The show started with some newer, not too new, country songs and towards the end a segment of classic country songs. In-between was songs from most all genres of music, dancing, and comedy. (Pictures)

NOONTIME STOPS
Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
At noon time each day we were scheduled to be dropped off at an area for shopping and lunch. The first day was the only time we decided to go to the scheduled stop, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. We walked a short way on the boardwalk then used an opening to the beach. We walked the beach for about ½ mile, when Ernie decide he needed to get out of the sun. We walked back to the boardwalk, then along the boardwalk to an opening out to the street.
Walking along the sidewalk we came to EZ Eats Cafe. The cafe was in a small corner of an arcade. Dale had a two scoop ice cream cone and a bottle of water. Ernie had two "Kraut Dogs", hot dog with sauerkraut, and a Dr Pepper. With a 30% senior discount & a tip the total bill was $10.90.
We still had over an hour before we were to meet the bus, so we walked into a few shops. As we walked past one of the many henna tattoo kiosks, one of the ladies on the tour called Ernie over. There were four ladies from the tour there. One of them was the lady who arranged the tour, she asked Ernie what tattoo she should get and wanted to know what one Ernie was going to get. Ernie let her know he was not going to get one and told her that she should get one that spelled out something, Ernie does not remember what it was, but it was a joke. She did not get a tattoo, but the other three ladies did. All these ladies were in their mid to late 70's. One got a butterfly, one a dragonfly, and the third a profile of Elvis. The one with the Elvis tattoo went up to the front of the stage at the Legends In Concert show and showed it to the Elvis impersonater. She received a kiss from him. (pictures)

The second day we were scheduled to go to Barefoot Landing and the third day to Broadway at the Beach. We opted to go back to the hotel for the afternoon each day. Everyone went back to the hotel instead of Barefoot Landing, 13 people went to Broadway at the Beach and the rest went to the hotel. NOTE: Broadway at the Beach is not on the beach.

DINNER RESTAURANTS
Chesapeake House
The evening we arrived in Myrtle Beach we had dinner at Chesapeake House. Because we were with a tour group and the tour company was paying for the meal we had a very limited menu. There was no one item on the menu that either of us wanted the combination of foods, but we decided that the seafood combo contained some things we each wanted. We each order the broiled version of the combo, Dale ate the shrimp & crab cakes from both plates and Ernie ate both pieces of flounder. The food was really good and the service adequate. After dinner we went down by the water in back of the restaurant and watched people feed bread to the many turtles and one alligator in the water. We also saw a great egret and a great blue heron. There is a fountain in the middle of the pond. (pictures)

Bennett's Calabash Seafood
This is a buffet, we were able to find enough food to satisfy our hunger, but we were not impressed by the selections or quality of the food.

Nakato Japanese Steakhouse
Finally a restaurant that we both really enjoyed. We ate in the Teppan Hibachi section of the restaurant, so the food was cooked on a griddle enclosed on three sides by a counter where we sat to eat. As usual in this type of setting the chef was entertaining as well as being a very good cook. We each opted for the steak and teriyaki chicken. Everything was delicious and unlike the first time, in the 70's, Ernie went to this type of restaurant, there was plenty of food.

Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant
Another buffet, but this time the selection and the food was great. Ernie especially liked the Shrimp Creole and the Jambalaya. He also really enjoyed the stir fry vegetables and noodles from the hibachi grill.
